There Is A Joy In The Journey

On January 13, 2003 I set out on one of the most challenging journeys of my life. One of the distinguishing marks of that journey has been joy.

Many of the songs written by Michael Card make me stop and think. Among them is Joy in the Journey performed by Michael in this video

Fill your coffee cup and enjoy.

Joy in the Journey

There is a joy in the journey

There’s a light we can love on the way

There is a wonder and wildness to life

And freedom for those who obey

And all those who seek it shall find it

A pardon for all who believe

Hope for the hopeless and sight for the blind

To all who’ve been born in the Spirit

And who share incarnation with Him

Who belong to eternity stranded in time

And weary of struggling with sin

Forget not the hope that’s before you

And never stop counting the cost

Remember the hopelessness when you were lost

There is a joy in the journey

There’s a light we can love on the way

There is a wonder and wildness to life

And freedom for those who obey

And freedom for those who obey…

by Michael Card

The phrases, “There is a wonder and wildness to life / Freedom to those who obey” are especially meaningful to me. Which part of the song speaks to your heart?

The Deer’s Cry

I like to read and pray Celtic prayers. Below is a video of a prayer attributed to St. Patrick set to music. I think you will be blessed with these thoughts so fill up your coffee cup, enjoy the beautiful images and meditate on the words of the prayer.

The Deer’s Cry

I arise today
Through the strength of heaven:
Light of sun,
Radiance of moon,
Splendour of fire,
Speed of lightning,
Swiftness of wind,
Depth of sea,
Stability of earth,
Firmness of rock.

I arise to-day
Through God’s strength to pilot me:
God’s eyes to look before me,
God’s wisdom to guide me,
God’s way to lie before me,
God’s shield to protect me,
From all who shall wish me ill,
Afar and anear,
Alone and in a multitude.

Against every cruel merciless power that may oppose my body and soul
Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me,
Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ on my right, Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down,
Christ when I sit down,
Christ when I arise,
Christ to shield me,
Christ in the heart of every one who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of every one who speaks of me.

I arise to-day

Grace and Peace,
Terry

A Prayer for St. Patrick’s Day

I guess I had better go put on something green. My grandchildren will be over in a few minutes and if I am not wearing green they will pinch me. Many myths and legends have grown up around St. Patrick’s Day and the pinching of the greenless is one of them.

Many people do not know that Patrick was a missionary to Ireland in the 5th century. The Breastplate of St. Patrick is a prayer attributed to him and I wanted to post an abridged version of that prayer today . . .

As I arise today,
may the strength of God pilot me,
the power of God uphold me,
the wisdom of God guide me.
May the eye of God look before me,
the ear of God hear me,
the word of God speak for me.
May the hand of God protect me,
the way of God lie before me,
the shield of God defend me,
the host of God save me.
May Christ shield me today.

Christ with me, Christ before me,
Christ behind me,
Christ in me, Christ beneath me,
Christ above me,
Christ on my right, Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit,
Christ when I stand,
Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.

Grace and Peace,
Terry
